The Essential Apron: Deirdra Jones, Jones of Boerum Hill

by The Culinistas

To celebrate the launch of our e-commerce shop, each week we’re highlighting one of the artists, makers, chefs, and farmers we’ve collaborated with. This week, we sat down with Deirdra Jones, founder of apron and workwear company: Jones of Boerum Hill. Outfitting some of the most respected brands in the fashion and culinary worlds (Ralph Lauren and The French Laundry to name a few) JoBH is known for being equal parts functional and sartorial.

Our work apron is designed for kitchen use with an eye towards design featuring a criss cross back detail, gold grommets, and front patchwork. It’s a must have for any home cook, and a thoughtful gift for the gourmand in your life.

A little about Deirdra & Jones of Boerum Hill:

How long have you been in business?
Jones of Boerum Hill (JoBH) was started in 2012, and I went to work on it full time in 2016.

What’s your business one liner?
JoBH produces premium uniforms and aprons for top bars, restaurants, and hotels across the globe. We are proud to manufacture in the USA, and our products are the most beautifully designed and crafted items on the market.

Three words to describe your brand?
Elevated, Design-forward, Workwear

Three people you’d like to have dinner with?
Keith Richards, Richard Branson, and Tom Ford

Ideal dinner menu?
Family-style, with local vegetables, dips, a cheese board, a big hearty salad, and then a whole roasted fish to share. A great bottle of wine to match, or some mezcal cocktails.

What culinary staples do you always have in your kitchen?
Now that I'm in California, it's avocados!

What’s on tap for 2020?
The rest of 2020 is going to be an evolutionary year for JoBH. We've moved operations from our NYC base to Los Angeles; we're working with some amazing new clients, and streamlining our processes to make the manufacturing and customer care even better. JoBH has a really cool cult following, and this year I plan to pull the curtain back a bit and show the rest of the world what we do. New and exciting products will be released, and existing products will be updated and refined. Lots of exciting things to come!

A special thanks to Deirdra Jones for the beautiful photograph.
