It’s tough not to fan-girl over cosmetics icon Bobbi Brown. Afterall, we’ve been relying on her products to get us ready for everything from a day at the office to a night on the town since, well, as long as we can remember. Nowadays, you’ll find Bobbi, a certified health coach with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, working on EVOLUTION_18, her new collection of supplements for “gorgeous skin, shiny hair, and overall glow.”

We sat down with Bobbi to talk about getting ready in just 15 minutes, her go-to dish and why collagen is her “ultimate beauty food.”

The Culinistas: What’s one ingredient you always have in the kitchen that’s essential to your beauty routine?

Bobbi Brown: Collagen is my ultimate beauty food. I leave a jar of EVOLUTION_18 Beauty Collagen Powder right on my kitchen counter. I add a scoop to my morning smoothies and have noticed such a difference in my hair, skin and nails — plus, it has good protein.

TC: We love to share tips for being your own personal chef at home. Along those lines, what are a few tips for being your own makeup artist at home?

BB: I’m the only person in my family that isn’t a chef, so I’m able to get away with not cooking often. But I do have a few go-to dishes, including Italian Pasta Salad with Tuna, in case I’m put on the spot. I like to have a stocked fridge with healthy ingredients so I can quickly whip up breakfast or lunch. That way, I’m snacking on fruits and vegetables rather than food from a bag.

Similarly, when it comes to makeup, make sure you have all the tools you need at your fingertips. Use good, clean formulas that work well on your skin and get rid of everything else. You’ll save a ton of time by only using what works best for you.

TC: If you were cooking dinner for a group of friends and only had 15 minutes to get ready/touch up before the main event, what would your routine look like?

BB: My routine is pretty short to begin with — 15 minutes is plenty of time. My first step is always moisturizer. Then, I pat Jones Road Beauty Miracle Balm all over, skin perfect and cover redness with our Face Pencils, line the top of my eyes with brown or black eyeliner, put on whatever shadow I’m feeling, add some blush, gloss, 2-3 coats of uber black mascara and I’m done!

TC: You’re at a dinner party and you know it’s going to be a long night. Do you have any tips or tricks for looking fresh all night?

BB: My favorite way to instantly refresh makeup is to rehydrate the skin with a tinted balm — one of the many reasons I’m obsessed with the Jones Road Beauty Miracle Balm. I use Tawny or Au Naturel, and just pat it on top of my existing makeup to wake it up and add some shine.

TC: What’s one thing that people often overlook when it comes to beauty/skincare?

BB: That beauty begins from within! I learned this early in my career — I’d see beautiful supermodels look different after smoking, a night out, or even just from being dehydrated. What you put inside your body makes a real difference in how you look and feel. Drink a ton of water and eat colorful food — trust me, it shows up on your face.

TC: If you’re going to splurge on one beauty product, what should it be and why? What about the one product you can get away with going budget on?

BB: A good SPF and moisturizer are well worth the splurge — they’re essential for healthy skin and you can really see the difference with high quality formulas. When it comes to face oils, my favorites can be bought for $7 at a health food store. Vitamin E oil, apricot kernel oil, grapeseed oil — they’re all super affordable and just as good as a fancy serum.

TC: Tell us about the best meal you had in the last year, and what made it so special.

BB: I’ve been very fortunate to have my masterchef sons with me in quarantine. They were able to make every dinner more special. My favorites were over the summer, eating by the water on a picnic table my husband built — grilled fresh fish, a ton of veggies and homemade sourdough bread. Plus good company and a Tito’s… you can’t go wrong.
